Software Engingeer- LBS

Job Summary 

The Living Balance Sheet or “LBS” is a fully customized version of the original eMoney core platform written for The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.  The software engineer is responsible for analyzing application requirements, designing a software solution to meet those requirements, and implementing the designed solution. The software engineer is also responsible for any ongoing maintenance of the application.  Due to the fact this group works solely with Guardian Life, LBS keeps a close relationship with the client and has the ability to make their own technology, design and architecture decisions.

 

Job Description 

  • Meet with customer face-to-face to gather application requirements
  • Discuss with customer directly over conference calls or other means to gather requirements or elicit feedback
  • Work with customer service to handle user problems
  • Investigate, replicate, and eliminate bugs in the application reported via testing or from users of the application
  • Have knowledge of at least one or more application layers which include the front-end, business layer, and database layer
  • Continually work towards becoming knowledgable in all application layers
  • Work cooperatively in a team to create software solutions based on customer requirements and feedback
  • Analyze a project and break it into parts to create accurate time estimates for required work
  • Adhere to a schedule and complete work according to a previously decided deadline
  • Support production releases either during the normal work day or after hours
  • Seek advice and help with application and technology issues from more senior members of the team

Requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent area of study or proven work experience in the software development field

Skills 

  • Growing knowledge of the Microsoft stack including C#, ASP.Net, MVC, etc.
  • Growing knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Some knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, and other web technologies
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies
  • Ability to learn and apply new and different software practices
